Article No 11 (1949) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ANYONE FOR ST JOHN'S -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 12 March 1949 Crewe Chronicle, Page 8. On Saturday night a young member of the St Johns Ambulance enquired at the Crewe Theatre for the Manager. The man on duty that night thought that his request was unnecessary as it was the custom for the Duty officers from St John's ambulance to report to the manager, so he took the young man to one of his female colleagues who was on duty within the Dress circle. Thinking he had arrived at his destination he handed the lady a long wire instrument covered in gauze. She declined the object. It was only later when the Crewe Memorial Hospital phoned the Theatre that the little boy was discovered to be in the wrong place. He should have taken the instrument to the operating theatre and not Crewe Theatre. In a later letter to the editor of the Crewe Chronicle It was pointed out that it was a genuine mistake and not something to be made fun of. The letter also said that the young gentleman had visited all the cinemas in Crewe before he had reached the "Crewe Theatre" trying to find the person who wanted the instrument wrapped in gauze.
