"Police were last week probing
the mysterious murder of a young girl acrobat during a magic show
in Crewe's Lyceum Theatre. But there will be no arrests - for the
murder was a scene from Granada TV's Drama series 'Lost Empires'
being filmed at the theatre.
The Week long filming involved a
large cast headed by John Castle and Colin Firth as the master
illusionist Nick Ollanton and his young Nephew Richard Herncastle
who enters the magical world of Edwardian music hall at the start
of the story.
TV Funny girl Pamela Stephenson
also appears in the series as popular singer Lily Farris. She and
Alfred Marks, who plays her manager, were at the Lyceum for
filming on Wednesday. Brian Glover appears as the top of the bill
comedian.
The Lyceum was set as the "grotty,
down market" 'Palace of Varieties' in the grubby South
Lancashire town of Burrington - a fictional place invented by
Priestley - in May 1914.
A Young girl acrobat is murdered
backstage during Nick Ollanton's act as The Great Ganga Dun, the
Marvellous Maharajah of Mystery, and the police are called in to
interview the stars.
The Lyceum was chosen for the film
because it was considered a "Perfect" example of an
Edwardian Theatre. 'Lost Empires' will cost £3 million to produce
and filming will take place up to next April. The Series will be
available for screening from the autumn of 1986. " |
